Meet the Candidate
A neighbor, a leader, and a strong voice for the people of Georgia Senate District 9.
Built on Integrity. Focused on Our Future.
Rooted in Gwinnett
I am humbled by the opportunity to step forward and serve District 9 and the people of Georgia. The guidance, prayers, and confidence shown by friends, neighbors, and community leaders have been overwhelming in the best possible way.
Gwinnett County is where I've built my life. I've watched our community grow into one of Georgia's most dynamic — and I've watched families struggle under rising property taxes, gridlocked commutes, and schools that haven't kept pace with the tax dollars we pour into them.
"Thank you for believing in the next generation of leadership."
I'm not a career politician. I'm a Gwinnett neighbor who believes that government works best when it's transparent, accountable, and focused on results — not promises. That's the standard I'll hold myself to, every single day in the Georgia Senate.
I know this journey comes with great responsibility, and I am committed to listening, learning, and working hard for our community every step of the way.
Michael Johnson doesn't cut corners. He believes in saying what he means, delivering what he promises, and holding every public dollar to the highest standard of accountability.
From SR 316 to GCPS classrooms to first-time homebuyers — Michael's platform is built on the practical issues shaping Gwinnett's next decade, not yesterday's talking points.
Conservative values aren't just a slogan — they're a commitment to limited government, fiscal discipline, and putting families ahead of special interests in every single vote.
Platform
Michael Johnson's platform is built on the real challenges Gwinnett County families face every day — practical conservative solutions backed by data, not partisan talking points.
Issue 01 · Taxes & Affordability
Gwinnett homeowners are feeling squeezed. Even when millage rates hold steady, rising property values drive tax bills higher year after year. The system is fragmented across county, school, and city authorities — making it nearly impossible for families to understand what they owe and why.
Issue 02 · Traffic & Roads
Gwinnett workers average a 32.8-minute commute — and population growth makes it worse every year. In 2024, 53% of voters rejected a 1% sales tax increase lasting 30 years. That wasn't a vote against fixing traffic. It was a vote against unlimited government spending with zero accountability.
Issue 03 · Schools & Education
GCPS families pay 18.70 mills in school taxes — among the highest in the region. They deserve a graduation rate that reflects that investment. The Class of 2024 graduated at 84.1%, still 1.3 points below the Georgia state average. Our children deserve better outcomes for the dollars we spend.
Issue 04 · Housing & Cost of Living
With a median home value of $345,700 and median gross rent of $1,713 per month, housing costs are pushing Gwinnett families to the edge. Over 76,000 households spend more than 30% of their income on housing. Gwinnett County's own planning documents call this a high-priority need — it's time to act.
Issue 05 · Public Safety
Gwinnett police are delivering results — homicides dropped 25% from 2023 to 2024 with a 100% clearance rate. But property crime remains a daily burden: 10,190 larceny-thefts, 2,227 burglaries, and 1,411 motor vehicle thefts in 2024 alone. Michael will protect what works and fix what doesn't.
